LAHORE:

There has been a change at the helm of investigations into the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scandal, with Zafar Ahmad Qureshi, additional director-general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), being replaced with Chaudhry Muhammad Manzoor, additional director-general immigration.

Qureshi, who was heading the probe, has been directed to report to the FIA headquarters, in violation of Supreme Court orders, which reappointed him the investigation officer in the NICL scam after his removal from the post by the government. Sources told The Express Tribune that Qureshi had refused to stop the inquiry against former FIA chief Waseem Ahmed and Director FIA Punjab Inam Ghani.

He also refused to declare Moonis Elahi innocent in his investigation report despite repeated requests by government officials. FIA chief Malik Iqbal said Qureshi’s successor would now conduct the inquiry against Ahmed and Ghani on the charges of withholding for 21 days the report of foreign accounts of Moonis Elahi.
