KARACHI: The January 21 public gathering in which the Muttahida Qaumi Movement founder Altaf Hussain had to make a telephonic speech amid a virtual ban on his politics has been cancelled, the MQM-London leader Nadeem Nusrat told The Express Tribune.

“Since it has been made impossible for us, we are left with no other option but to cancel the rally,” Nusrat said, referring to the unclaimed arrest of his group’s supporters and of the PQM chief Iqbal Kazmi.

Kazmi went missing on Tuesday after he was going back home from the Sindh High Court where he had moved a petition seeking orders to the authorities to grant him permission to hold the event.

“We will see what course we can take in future when we have our own platform ie, the MQM as well,” Nusrat said, when asked if there was a plan to reschedule the event if Kazmi is recovered.
