Is this update the answer to all your transport woes?

The tech giant recently announced an update for Google Maps which allows users to book a ride on Uber without having to leave the app. “Today, we’re starting to roll out an updated ride services experience to make it even easier for you to book a ride directly from Google Maps, on both Android and iOS globally,” a post on Google Blog read. “You can now book an Uber ride, track your driver on the map, and connect with your driver—all from within the Google Maps app.”

Google Maps now features a dedicated icon for ride services. To book a ride, users simply have to enter their destination on Google Maps and press the ride service icon which shows service providers in the area. However, only Uber rides are integrated with Google Maps and users need to switch between apps to opt for another service. Google Maps also allows users to track their Uber driver once they have booked a ride in addition to presenting estimated ride fares.

“From booking a ride to reserving a table at a local restaurant, booking your favorite fitness class to ordering delivery for a night in, Google Maps no longer just shows you the information you're looking for. It also makes it easier to get things done in the real world — all in one place,” a statement on Google’s website read.

With the update, the tech giant gets one step closer to making Google Maps a one-stop app allowing users to book rides, review destinations and even order food.
