For female workers: Factories to provide accommodation
Women are 52 per cent of country’s population, out of which only six per cent are working as factory workers
LAHORE:
The first floors of factories will be used to provide accommodation facilities to female workers, said Punjab Industrial Estates Development and Management Company (PIEDMC) Chairman Rizwan Khalid Butt. He was addressing a meeting of the Board of Directors on Friday. The step will ensure maximum involvement of female workers in the process of development of the country, he said, adding women are 52 per cent of country’s population, out of which only six per cent are working as factory workers. The Punjab government had introduced a number of laws for protection of female workers at workplace, he said. “We will have to follow the models of Korea and Bangladesh where labour colonies have been set up on the first floors of factories as they enable the female workers to contribute to the national economy and look after their homes simultaneously,” he added.
