The owner of Meraki Jewellery talks to us about her interest in jewellery and the special pieces inside her treasure box

How and when did you get interested in jewellery?

Well, certain things evoke certain memories and jewellery does that for me. It has the power to bring back memories of a specific event, a person or a time in life. The idea that you’re making something that will be passed onto generations has always interested me, therefore when I got into PIFD I knew I had to choose Jewellery Design as my major. It’s been a roller coaster ride since then!

What are your favourite pieces of jewellery (precious or costume)?

My all-time favourite jewellery piece is a kundan set that was given to my grandmother by her mother-in-law, which was later passed onto my mother. It must be 100 years old. You can never beat vintage craftsmanship.

Where did you get some of your favourite pieces from?

I’ve designed each piece in my collection from my soul. In fact Meraki means something created from your soul.

Is there any piece you are emotionally attached to and why?

I am extremely attached to my wedding ring. Who wouldn’t be? Wearing it everyday reminds me of everything I’ve been blessed with and brings back all the amazing memories of my wedding day. It’s just something I keep close to my heart, always.

Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favourite pieces?

One of my favourite pieces is a ring I got as a gift from my mother on my wedding. It was love at first sight, and I wear it everyday.

Is there anything on your radar that you want to get in the future?

Let’s not even go there. I want each and every pretty thing!
