Pawns all of us

May 09, 2010

This is with reference to the article ‘Pawns in the war on terror’ by Awab Alvi (May 5). What is one to expect where there is no writ of the state, where there is no effective policing, where tribal customs still prevail and are accepted by many as law, where children are being brainwashed and indoctrinated to become suicide bombers and where thousands of jihadis are being produced. May I ask Mr Alvi why he chose to ignore giving us the number of innocent people who have died in attacks by the Taliban in Pakistan? Thousands have lost their lives in these attacks and are we to simply forget that? One needs to have a balance when writing about such issues and present both sides of the story. Sadly that was lacking in this article.
