BAHAWALPUR: Effective measures are being taken to clear clogged sewerage lines and mistakes will not be repeated in devising the strategy for the new waste disposal system.

Housing and Public Health Engineering Provincial Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha said this while chairing a meeting held at the DCO Office to review the progress of construction on sewerage and treatment plant in Rahim Yar Khan on Monday.

The minister said machinery would be provided on the demand of the district government, while Water and Sanitation Agency MD would be directed to visit Rahim Yar Khan and submit a report so desired targets could be achieved.

For the construction of the waste disposal system, a firm of international repute will be hired for the project, he added. Construction work on the project would be completed by the end of current fiscal year for which funds have been provided.

Meanwhile, Bahawalpur DCO Muhammad Zafar Iqbal said sewerage-related issues have been reduced to a great extent but still a lot of work was required.

He said the available resources were not enough to clear sewerage lines in the prescribed time limit as the public health and engineering department had an additional load of other development projects.
