Different segments of our society need integration and teachers have a very important role to play in the context.

This was said on Thursday by Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed at the concluding ceremony of the 28th “Master Trainers-Faculty Development Programme”, organised by the HEC at its secretariat.

“Remember that your students should not only excel in their respective disciplines but should also become good human beings,” he stressed while advising teachers to disseminate the best practices of learning to their students.

Teachers are assets for any nation and are responsible for shaping the thought-process, the chairman said. He urged the faculty members to spread hope among students and teach them the importance of tolerance.

As many as 30 faculty members from various higher education institutions across Pakistan attended the programme.

Executive Director Dr Arshad Ali and Learning Innovation Adviser Shaheen Khan were also present.

The faculty development programme had been designed specifically for in-service teachers. It includes micro-teaching sessions to renovate teaching skills of the participants. Besides intensive training modules, general topics were strategically inter-mingled with regular course modules. Recreational and study trips for participants were also arranged.

Sharing their experiences, the faculty members said the programme provided them with a rich experience, as it was an opportunity to meet people from different parts of the country and witness a high level of harmony and unity.

They said that they learnt a lot about theoretical research methodology, need for critical thinking, and how to plan a programme with HEC funding.
