ISLAMABAD: At least two teenagers drowned on Thursday in the Korang River in the Nain Sukh area of Bhara Kahu while another was rescued by locals. The deceased were identified as Kashaf Pervaiz, 14, and Irum Amin, 19. Kashaf’s family told The Express Tribune that the girls were swimming in the river to have a bath but were swept away by a strong current. The police, however, said that the girls were crossing the river when they were hit by the wave. “The girls were alone and nearby residents came by to try to rescue them when they heard a commotion,” Kashaf’s uncle Nasir Shehzad said. The locals could only rescue Nida Amin, Irum’s older sister. She was shifted to the Polyclinic, where she was stated to be out of danger. Kashaf’s father Pervaiz Masih said the incident was accidental and due to ‘bad luck’.
