Commissioner directs action against illegal cattle markets

Civic officials told to maintain proper record of the sales of cattle

BAHAWALPUR: The Bahawalpur Division Commissioner, Saqib Zafar has directed the concerned officials of the Cattle Management Company (CMC) to initiate strict action against the operation of illegal cattle markets in Bahawalpur division. He issued these directions while presiding over a high level meeting with the CMC at his office on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by MPA Qazi Adnan Farid, MPA Umar Jaafir Gujjar, DCO Bahawalpur Ehtisham Anwar Mahaar, Additional Commissioner Saqib Ali Ateel, Veterinary College’s Professor Umar Farooq, CMC MD Waqar Ahmad and other officials of the concerned departments.

The purpose of the meeting was to elaborate on how to devise an effective and result oriented strategy regarding the full operationalisation of the Cattle Management Company. Participants of the meeting had a detailed discussion regarding the provision of adequate staff and transport facilities for the employees of the Cattle Management Company.

Zafar said that livestock played a vital role in an agrarian economy. He said that the government was committed to extending the necessary facilities to the farmers for raising livestock. Zafar further noted, “Cattle Management Company should ensure a hygienic environment through a special cleanliness drive at the cattle markets in Bahawalpur division.” He asked the civic officials to maintain proper record of the sales of cattle at the cattle markets.
