PESHAWAR: The provincial government is likely to issue a notification for vice chancellors of six out of nine universities. However, the names of heads for the remaining three varsities have not yet been finalised due to various reasons.

While talking to The Express Tribune, an official of HED, requesting anonymity, said the department sent a summary of vice chancellors to the governor who sent it back with some reservations, saying the appointments were made on the basis of nepotism.

However, he added, HED sent a clarification to the governor on his reservations. Finally, the latter approved the names on Monday.

The official said appointments have been made for vice chancellors of Hazara University, Women University Mardan, Women University Swabi, Gomal University, Abbotabad University of Science and Technology and Islamia College University Peshawar.

According to the official, vice chancellors of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in Peshawar, University of Technology Nowshera and Kohat University of Science and Technology will be announced in a month.

HED Additional Secretary Khalid Khan told The Express Tribune, the department has sent another summary on the matter to the governor for final approval. The governor has approved it, he added, but they have not received it yet.

Khalid maintained they would issue a notice when the final approval is received. Everything else regarding the appointments has been finalised, he added.
