Pokémon Go, the latest gaming sensation, is facing the threat of another attack.

Poodlecorp, the hacker group, has threatened it will shut the game down on August 1 using distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on its servers.

Pokémon GO servers down, hackers claim responsibility

“We take the servers offline because it is popular right now and nobody can stop us,” @xotehpoodle (a member of the Poodlecorp group) said. “We do it because we can, nobody can stop us and we just like to cause chaos. We chose August 1 so we have time to relax and not care about doing anything.”

Poodlecorp plans to take the game servers offline for an entire day using a botnet network of around 600,000 devices.

Poodlecorp carried out a similar attack on the game last Saturday that caused problems for the server and also claim to have used the botnet tool to hack various YouTubers and the League of Legends servers.

Hackers have earlier made similar claims that didn’t materialise but Poodlecorp’s xotehpoodle warns that this time it’s different, “because we made a promise.”
