For the world's super-wealthy, the price tag for an appropriate home can go all the way to $1 billion. From helipads to tennis courts, these homes have amenities that only the super-rich can afford.

We take a look at how much it really costs to enjoy such comfort and luxury. Here are the 11 most expensive houses in the world and their owners:

11) Crespi Hicks Estate - Priced at $135 million

This piece of real estate was built and designed by architect Maurice Fatio for his personal use up until his death in 1943. The entire estate spreads across 25 acres. It now belongs to Tom Hicks, the owner of Liverpool FC, Dallas Stars and Texas Rangers. Hicks spent almost 10 years and $100 million to completely restore the mansion and the result is breathtaking!

10) Seven The Pinnacle - Estimated at $155 million

This property is the largest in the Yellowstone Club, a private ski and golf community for the mega-rich. It has heated floors, multiple pools, a gym, a wine cellar, and even its own ski lift.

The owners of this property are Edra, a real estate developer and Tim Blixseth, a timber baron and co-founder of the Yellowstone Club, but the club’s bankruptcy, a divorce, and other troubles have seriously reduced his wealth in recent years.

9) Franchuk Villa ~ Estimated at $161 million

This property is owned by the daughter of Ukraine’s second president, Olena Franchuk. She is known for being the founder of the ANTIAIDS Foundation. The mansion consists of 10-bedrooms, an underground swimming pool, a sauna, gym, cinema, and even a panic room. The interior is covered in marble, gold, and priceless artworks.

8) Hearst Castle -Estimated at $165 million

This castle with 29 rooms was featured in the Godfather movie and was also US president JF Kennedy’s pick for his honeymoon. It has also hosted other famous figures, including Jackie Kennedy, Clark Gable and Winston Churchill.

The castle, built by the country’s first newspaper magnate, is now a heritage and tourist site and part of the California Park System.

7) Ellison Estate - Estimated at $200 million

This 23-acre property is home to 10 buildings, a man-made lake, Koi pond, tea house, and bath house.

Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle and the third-richest man in the world in 2013, is the owner of this exquisite property.

6) 18–19 Kensington Palace Gardens - Estimated at $222 million

Bought by steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal in 2008 for $222 million, this property was put back on the market in 2012 because he’s looking for a bigger one. According to rumours, Mr Mittal will be soon building his own castle!

5) Fairfield, NY - Estimated at $248 million

This 29-bedroom home sits on 63 acres and has its own power plant. Inside, there are 39 bathrooms, a basketball court, bowling alley, squash courts, tennis courts, three swimming pools, and a 91-foot long dining room.

It is owned by Ira Rennert the owner of the Renco Group -- a holding company with investments in auto manufacturing and smelting. Rennert also has holdings in metals and mining.

4) The White House - Estimated at $320 million

We all know about this property as the US presidential house since the 1800s. According to real estate companies, the property would be valued at $320,364,354 if it were ever to hit the market which is very unlikely to happen.

Although the place is not as big or luxurious, it certainly has plenty of historical value.

3) Vila Leopolda - Estimated at $736 million

This 50-acre estate is probably the most expensive villa in Europe. It includes “a commercial sized green house, a swimming pool and pool house, an outdoor kitchen, helipad, and a guest house larger than the mansions of most millionaires,” according to Variety. The house was famously used as a set in the 1955 Hitchcock classic To Catch a Thief.

Lily Safra, a Brazilian philanthropist and widow of Lebanese banker William Safra is the owner of the mansion.

2) Antilla - Estimated at $1 billion

Built for Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, this 27-floor residence located in Mumbai is reported to have cost him 5% of his net worth. Over 600 people are currently employed in order to function on a day-to-day basis.

1) Buckingham Palace

Technically still a house, but certainly not for sale, the Queen’s residence was valued at roughly $1.5 billion by the Nationwide Building Society in 2012. The property holds 775 rooms, including 19 state rooms, 52 bedrooms, 188 staff rooms, 92 offices, and 78 bathrooms. The British Sovereign—Currently Queen Elizabeth II, who has ruled since February 6, 1952 is the owner of this property.
