10-day mourning period announced over his passing

SWABI: Awami National Party leader and former MPA Muhammad Shuaib Khan, who was gunned down by unidentified men on Sunday night, was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard at Yar Hussain, Swabi on Monday.

His funeral was attended by thousands of people from across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Haji Muhammad Shuaib Khan was at his hujra when two armed men attacked him. As a result, Shuaib Khan was critically injured. He was first rushed to a local hospital and later referred to Bacha Khan Medical Complex Mardan and Lady Reading Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Monday. He is survived by a widow, three sons and two daughters.

Haji Muhammad Shuaib belonged to a middle class family from Yar Hussain. He was a diehard ANP stalwart and an ardent supporter of Bacha Khan. He was elected to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in the 1997 general elections. He had served as Swabi acting president for a couple of times during the absence of the late MNA Haji Rahmanullah Khan. Haji Muhammad Shuaib served as chief of Islahi Committee and succeeded in settlement of scores of disputes.
