QUETTA: Unidentified assailants shot dead a Balochistan Levies official and a policeman in two separate incidents in Mastung district on Saturday.

The slain policeman was identified as Ashfaq Qazi. His attackers were riding a motorcycle, according to police. The attackers fled soon after the incident.

Within an hour, unidentified motorcycle riders shot dead Levies Rasaldar Murtaza Lehri in the commercial area of Chandni Chowk and escaped unchallenged.

A wave of attacks have been carried out against policemen and paramilitary FC and Levies officials in recent weeks, raising alarm bells for the provincial government.

Meanwhile, six paramilitary soldiers were wounded when insurgents targeted a convoy of Frontier Corps (FC) near the Turbat town. According to security sources, the attack was reported in the arid plain of Dasht, which was once a stronghold of separatist insurgents. Security forces cordoned off the area and rushed the injured to hospital.

In another incident, two men died in a landmine blast in the Lehri area of Sibi.
