A local identified as Qari Asghar was 'targeted' in the attack, says SSP Operations Abbas Majeed

PESHAWAR: A policeman was killed and five civilians injured in a roadside blast in Peshawar's Bashirabad area on Thursday .

SSP Operations Abbas Marwat said a local identified as Qari Asghar was 'targeted' in the attack, which also injured five passersby, including police constable Furqan who later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

“This man who was attacked had personal enmity and was possible the prime target,” the SSP said.

It is possible that Qari Asghar was the target of the attack, ASP Faqirabad Wasim Riaz told The Express Tribune, adding it was an IED blast.

The bomb disposal squad said the IED had two kg of explosives.

“Qari Asghar claimed he was the target as he had a personal enmity but we can't be certain [at the moment],” the official said, adding the constable was deployed at the residence of Judge (retired) Shah Jehan. He was on a bike when he came under the attack.

The injured were shifted to the the Lady Reading Hospital, where Furqan succumbed to his injuries.
