ISLAMABAD: A total of 760 laptops were given to students under the Prime Minister’s laptop scheme at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS).

As many as 710 laptops were distributed to MS and PhD students at CIIT under Phase-II of the Prime Minister’s scheme at the Islamabad campus, said a press release. Students were given modern laptops and along with an internet device.

Addressing faculty and students, Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed appreciated CIIT’s performance, in general, and the contribution of Rector CIIT in particular. He also emphasised on the quality of education and productive research work.

Another 50 laptops were distributed among the students of Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), in Nilore, by Minister of State of Education and Professional Training Muhammad Balighur Rehman.



The scheme has also narrowed down the digital gap in students and had immensely helped in their academic research, he added.  “We are committed to enable our brilliant students to use technology to enhance their educational expertise and use their knowledge for the development of their communities,” the minister stated.

In order to continue the journey towards scientific and technological proficiency, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has undertaken this scheme for young and bright students studying in public sector higher education institutions, he added.

“This programme encourages bright students to further pursue research and academic work in their respective fields in public sector universities,” Rehman added.

Shah g | 7 years ago | Reply We have been waiting for the laptops since last year but alas what to say. They have deprived the most genuine students and if they are not interested to give laptops why keep the students waiting and gessing. . A desperate bachelor student .
