Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced Rs10 million in financial support to the family of late qawwal Amjad Sabri, who was shot dead in Karachi on Wednesday.

In a statement issued on Thursday, he said the federal government will also bear the educational expenses of Sabri's children.

"The loss of Amjad sabri at the hands of coward terrrorists is loss of entire Pakistan. He was genuine aashiq-e-Rasul," said the statement.

"His contributions through promotion of love and tolerance all around the world are unmatched and unparraled in present time. People of Pakistan loved him and will remember him as a goodwill ambassador of Pakistan around the world."

Amjad Sabri laid to rest

Sabri, 45, was travelling from his home to a television studio to attend an iftar transmission, when a motorcycle pulled up alongside his white coloured Honda Civic and the two riders opened fire.

His killing was met with shock and condemnation. Friends, artistes, singers and fans congregated outside his home to offer condolences to his family, while TV channels broadcast recordings of his music in tribute.

Meanwhile, two separate CCTV videos related to Sabri's murder were doing the rounds on social media. It remained unclear if the videos were released by  the LEAs or were 'leaked'.

FIR registered

SHO Sharifabad police station registered an FIR on behalf of Azmat Farid Sabri, against unidentified attackers of the slain qawwal.

qaiser ahmed | 7 years ago | Reply Dishing out money to a victim's family of terrorism is in some way acceptable if the victim was a poor man. Whose absence would be missed emotionally and financially by the victims family. Such is not the case here. Amjad Sabri family will miss him very much, and we all pray for him.NS, is simply being an opportunist to get some good PR. Shame on you NS.
