KARACHI: With a staggering 250,000 plays on popular music streaming portal Soundcloud, it was only a matter of time before Laiyan Laiyan would see a video release.

Scheduled to release on Eidul Fitr, a sneak peek from the Jal song was uploaded a few days ago on the social media, building a great deal of anticipation among fans. The teaser is a montage of a series of clips of the original video that show band front man Goher Mumtaz opening a large box and interacting with a girl, followed by images of occult symbols.

The Sajni crooner revealed the inspiration behind recording the single while speaking to The Express Tribune. “For my part in a television serial, I was supposed to sing four songs,” he explained. “The director of the project approached me one day and requested me to sing a new rendition of Laiyan Laiyan.” The single was originally featured in a Pakistani movie, Chooriyan, sung by two-time Nigar award winner Azra Jahan.

A few days after the recording, Mumtaz uploaded the audio stream for the single on his Soundcloud page, along with the three new songs he had produced. “The kind of feedback and response that we received for Laiyan Laiyan was phenomenal. Ever since it’s audio release, fans had been requesting us to release a music video,” he recalled. However, despite the popular demand, Mumtaz did not immediately bow down to the pressure of working on the video. “In the back of my mind I’ve always wanted to make a video for Laiyan Laiyan, but initially I was more focused on releasing new music,” he said. “That is why I released a video for Tere Bajoun before making Laiyan Laiyan a priority.”

The singer also revealed that the music video was supposed to hit the screens before Ramazan, but the post-production took longer than expected. “We initially wanted to release the video before Ramazan but it was still undergoing post-production so we decided to hold it back for an Eid release.”

Unwilling to divulge too many details regarding the upcoming video, Mumtaz couldn’t help but share that it had a “really interesting twist” to it. “The video is actually about two lovers meeting each other. The box is actually used to summon a person who is very close to you,” he said.

According to Mumtaz, not many changes have been made to the version of the song that was initially recorded during the TV serial project. “It is a very basic unplugged version with a bit of piano and guitar.”

Jal to release new single

Laiyan Laiyan will be Jal’s third music video to be released within the span of a year. Following Tere Bajoun, Mumtaz recorded a song, titled Ooncha, in commemoration of Defence Day. He also sang his own version of one of Alamgir’s most popular songs, Tum Hi Se Ae Mujahido, for the occasion.

Despite the fact that Mumtaz’s acting career has taken up most of his time in the past few years ever since he ventured into television serials, the singer is still keen on pursuing a career in music. “We will soon be touring India in the coming months. Apart from that, we have also planned out a string of performances for our Pakistani fans,” he shared.

Mumtaz also sang praises for the video’s director Shoaib Idrees, saying that he was impressed by Idrees’ vision and innovation. “He hasn’t directed many music videos but he still managed to do an amazing job with Laiyan Laiyan,” he added.

In an earlier interview Mumtaz had shared that he was also looking to commence production on the music video for another single, Bhawray. “All I can tell you for now is that the video will be performance-based, but with a concept … it will be a little experimental.”

JAL | 7 years ago | Reply Atif Left, Farhan Left, only Gohar remains. Which shows that JAL band was all about Gohar getting limelight. But interestingly both Atif and Farhan are doing good once leaving JAL.
