India's main opposition Congress party workers on Tuesday named a public toilet in Allahabad after Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor, apparently in retaliation to the actor's recent rant over naming several public institutions after Nehru-Gandhi family.

Some Congress workers from the youth wing of the party, hung a poster, naming Sulabh public toilet in Shivaji Park area after the actor and inviting people to use the toilet as much as possible.

Last week, Rishi Kapoor in a series of tweets questioned why "har cheez" (everything) in the country is named after the Gandhis.

"Change Gandhi family assets named by Congress... Do they consider it their father's property?," tweeted the 63-year-old actor.

"If roads in Delhi can be changed why not Congress assets/property ke naam? Was in Chandigarh wahan bhi Rajeev Gandhi assets? Socho? Why?" the veteran wrote.

"We must name important assets of the country who have contributed to society. Har cheez Gandhi ke naam? I don't agree. Sochna log!" read another tweet by Rishi.

"Why Indira Gandhi airport International? Why not Mahatma Gandhi or Bhagat Singh Ambedkar or on my name Rishi Kapoor. As superficial! What say?" Kapoor tweeted.

When asked how he felt about public toilets being named after him, the Bollywood actor remained calm and said, "I am thrilled. At least I will be of some use to someone," according to Mid-Day.

Kapoor however, took the opportunity to explain to his fans what his tweets actually meant. "On a serious note, it really doesn’t matter to me what Congress workers do. They seem to have not understood what I implied by my tweets.

"I have nothing against the Nehru or Gandhi family. I am against the people exploiting their family name," he added.
