KARACHI: A judicial magistrate sent a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) into police custody on physical remand on charges of killing a rival political activist three years ago. The District East magistrate remanded Rao Shafqat of MQM’s Lines Area sector after the police told the court that the suspect and his absconding accomplice gunned down Babar alias Dan-Dan, a Sunni Tehreek worker, in Brigade area in 2012. The investigating officer maintained that the suspect confessed to committing several such acts of targeted killings on the orders of his party’s leadership. The court remanded the suspect for four days after the police submitted that more investigations are to be done into the case. The court also sought progress report at the next hearing.
