PESHAWAR:

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa recovered around Rs2.5 billion during 2014-15.

This was mentioned in a report issued by the bureau on Sunday.

As per the report, 2014-15 has been termed a “glorious period” as a large sum of money was collected over such a short duration for the first time since NAB was established in K-P.

“During the period, high-profile personalities were put behind bars for their involvement in corruption,” stated the report. “In total 82 references — wherein Rs11.68 million was misappropriated — were registered in Ehtesab courts.”

It added, “NAB K-P had arrested 425 people, filed 323 references, registered and recovered Rs1.4 billion out of Rs10.58 billion of looted money, through plea bargains and voluntary return, in the past.” However, during 2014-15 NAB K-P arrested 250 people over graft allegation.

Moreover, 80% of those taken into custody were convicted during this period.
“The Rs2.5 billion that the bureau recovered was out of Rs11.68 billion that was looted,” stated the report.

NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry visited all bureaus to assess performances and paid tribute to NAB K-P Director General Shehzad Salim and his team for their commitment to eliminate corruption from the province.
