LOS ANGELES: Hollywood actor Jennifer Lawrence – or JLaw as her fans like to call her – has yet another seminal role to add to her impressive portfolio. She will next be starring in the upcoming film, Marita – a biography of Marita Lorenz, the ex-lover of Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Sony Pictures has acquired the exclusive rights to the story of Lorenz’s life after a bidding war against fellow film giants, Universal Pictures, Warner Bros, Fox, Paramount and Lionsgate, reported variety.com.

Lorenz, a native of Germany, was incarcerated at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp during the Second World War. Following an affair with Castro at the young age of 19, she was approached by the CIA for being allegedly involved in an attempt to assassinate the revolutionary politician. In 1993, Lorenz wrote an autobiography entitled Marita: One Woman’s Extraordinary Tale of Love and Espionage, From Castro to Kennedy, which was followed by a second installment, Lieber Fidel-Mein Leben, Meine Liebe, Mein Verrat in 2001. Lorenz was also the inspiration behind the 1999 TV film, My Little Assassin.

Guys are so mean to me: Jennifer Lawrence

The 25-year-old Lawrence received her fourth Academy Award nomination last week, for her compelling performance in Joy, the story of a young girl who rises to become founder and matriarch of powerful business family. She also won a Golden Globe for Best Actress for the same role, earlier in January. Previously, Lawrence has scored two Oscar nominations for American Hustle and Winter’s Bone and even won the award of Best Supporting Actress for her work in 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook
