ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has refused to accept Shujaat Azeem’s resignation as the premier’s special assistant on aviation, and asked him to wait until the top court issues its verdict.

The beleaguered aviation czar had resigned on Monday, citing “work restrictions imposed by the Supreme Court” as his reason.

The court had barred him from participating in the affairs of the aviation division last week in response to a petition filed by the pilots’ union against his appointment.

The move comes at a time when the government is embroiled in a tussle with labour unions of the national airline over its privatisation.

According to a statement issued by the PM House on Wednesday, Premier Nawaz has deferred Azeem’s resignation until the apex court decides the matter.
