PM Nawaz to meet Zehri, Qadir Baloch today

PML-N leaders will seek final decision on the 2013 power-sharing deal

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N)  Balochistan chief Sardar Sanaullah Khan Zehri and Safron Minister Lt Gen (retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch will call on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday (today) to discuss the fate of the June 4, 2013 Murree accord.

After the May 2013 polls, three major parties in Balochistan – the PML-N, the National Party (NP) and the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) – had agreed on a power-sharing deal in Murree.



According to the agreement, the chief minister would be from the NP, but he would step down midway through his five-year constitutional tenure to make way for another chief minister from the PML-N.

Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, who took oath on June 9, 2013, has completed his 2.5 year tenure on Wednesday.  The PML-N’s officials said the two party leaders would seek the PM’s final decision regarding the implementation of the accord.

In case of the prime minister’s approval, Zehri will take office as the chief minister of the restive province, which has seen considerable improvement in its law and order situation during Dr Baloch’s tenure.



Zehri has arrived in Islamabad along with other senior party leaders and has finalised his points for talks with the prime minister. The PM was supposed to meet the PML-N’s leadership on December 9 but due to his hectic schedule on account of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process, the meeting was deferred till Thursday morning (today).
