Did you know bread goes stale faster in the fridge?

We all run to our fridge when we need to store perishable food items. But did you know that most foods we store in the fridge stale faster?

Yep, that bread is better off on the counter.

Onions:

Moisture from the fridge will turn onions soft and modly. Store in a cool, dry place instead.

Coffee beans/grounds:

Leaving them in the fridge will make them lose their flavor. Instead store them in a cool, dry place.

Olive oil:

Storing olive oil in the fridge will make it condense and turn into a harder, butter-like consistency.

Basil:

It wilts faster in the refrigerator and absorbs smells of the different foods in the fridge. It's better to keep basil sitting out in a fresh cup of water.

Honey:

Honey will stay good practically forever if you keep it tightly sealed. No need to keep it in the fridge.

Garlic:

In the fridge it gets rubbery and moldy, so it's best to keep it in a cool, dry place.

6 foods that keep you warm in winter

Bread:

The fridge will dry out bread quickly. It's better to keep it in the freezer or on the counter instead.

Avocados:

Trying to ripen your avocados? Definitely don't put them in the fridge.

Potatoes:

Keeping potatoes in the fridge will make them sweet and gritty. Instead, store them in a paper bag.

Tomatoes:

Refrigeration changes their texture and aids in losing all their flavour. What's worse? The cold air stops the ripening process -- which gives tomatoes their flavour. Keep tomatoes out in a bowl or basket on the counter.

LS | 8 years ago | Reply A refrigerator is like a cold desert it takes away moisture and does not add it to the food. Thus it is better to keep Onions, Garlic and Potatoes outside the fridge for that reason and nothing else. Moreover Small from Onion and Garlic will get into other foods. The only harm in keeping oil and honey in fridge is that it becomes denser and honey can crystallize. Oil and Honey does not become rancid. Keep unopened bread (Factory Produced Bread) anywhere you like but keep the unopened Artisan Bread in Fridge. Coffee beans/ground coffee kept outside for long would become Rancid and bitter. Same is true for Walnuts. If you plan to store it for long keep them inside the fridge or buy small quantities. Avacados, I agree, if you are trying to Ripen; keep them outside. Once Ripened keep them inside the Fridge. Store bought tomatoes (Most of them are over riped or bordering over riped) are too fragile and would attract fungus and rot if kept outside. If you got them from a field or farmer's market keep them outside for 4-5 days and they would be alright. If they are still around and not consumed.. put them in the Fridge.
