A video of a Muslim family being asked to leave a theatre in India for not standing up for the national anthem has gone viral on social media.

The short video clip shows a group of people arguing with the Muslim family who they accuse of making excuses for not standing up in respect of the Indian national anthem.

As the family is forced to leave the theatre, people can be seen welcoming the act with applause.

The Times of India reported they could not verify where the incident took place as some reports claim it was in Mumbai, while others stated it happened in Bengaluru.

Many took to Twitter to express disgust at the level of intolerance, while the video posted on Facebook has been shared thousands of times.

Shaine | 8 years ago | Reply @raw is war: Correction! In Pak no1 would have even bothered whether sum1 stood up for a national anthem or not. But we can expect anything in so called a SECULAR India where people are burnt alive for eating beef or being an untouchable.
