Two killed in attack on Akram Durrani's convoy in Bannu

JUI-F MNA and former K-P chief minister remains unhurt in attack

BANNU: At least two people were killed and three others injured in the attack on Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader and Member National Assembly (MNA) Akram Khan Durrani’s convoy in Bannu on Thursday.

According to police officials, a remote-controlled bomb exploded near Durrani’s convoy in the Narmikhel area of Bannu; however, the JUI-F leader remained safe in the incident.

Durrani is the ex-Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister. He was returning from Bakka Khel, Frontier Region Bannu, where he had attended a JUI-F congregation, when his convoy came under attack.

The victims were said to be employees of the health department. Soon after the attack, high-ranking officials rushed to the site.

This was the first such attack on Durrani. However, party chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has been previously targeted thrice in suicide attacks.

Last year, the JUI-F chief survived a suicide attack on his convoy in Quetta but an activist of his party was killed and 22 others wounded.

Earlier in August this year, Punjab Home Minister Col (retd) Shuja Khanzada was killed along with 16 others in a suicide blast at his political office in Shadi Khan near Attock.
