ISLAMABAD: Army chief General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday met with Brazil’s armed forces Chief of Joint Staff General Jose Carlos De Nardi, who lauded Pakistan Army’s professionalism and operational achievements especially in ongoing counter terrorism operations.

General Raheel was visiting the Brazil Army Headquarters where he was presented a guard of honour and 19 guns’ salute. After conclusion of his five-day visit to US, where he met top US civil and military leaders including US Vice President Joe Biden, General Raheel had landed in Brazil.

According to the army’s media wing – the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) – matters of mutual professional interest and military to military relations were discussed during the meeting. The two military leaders also discussed regional security, emerging challenges and training exchanges.

The army chief also met Brazil’s defence minister and discussed ways and means for bolstering cooperation in the field of defence.  General Raheel Sharif also invited Brazil defence minister to visit Pakistan.

“We want to further strengthen our ties with Brazil.  Pakistan army is continuing war against terrorism successfully and Pakistan will soon get rid of the menace of terrorism,” the Online news agency quoted General Rageel as saying.
