Second-hand sales: IDP ration warehouses sealed

Raids determine rations were repacked and sold in public places in city

Peshawar district nazim Muhammad Asim Khan ordered a raid on 15 warehouses within the jurisdiction of Chamkani police station on Tuesday where food items for IDPs were being repacked 


for sale.

Insiders told The Express Tribune a series of complaints had been received from local and district government representatives regarding the purchase and sale of food items meant for IDPs. The district nazim took notice of the matter and appointed food inspector, Tasbeehullah, to investigate on behalf of rationing controller Umer Aftab. Muhammad Asim instructed Tasbeehullah to identify the areas where such practices had become prevalent.

As per the food inspector’s report, food items allotted for IDPs was being stored in warehouses within the jurisdiction of Chamkani police station. A raid was conducted in the area.



Additional DC Irshad Sodhar, AC Altaf Ahmad Sheikh, Additional AC Fazeelat Jehan and various police officials conducted the crackdown.

Speaking to journalists, Muhammad Asim said 4,000 food packets – weighting 40 kilogrammes each – were recovered from various warehouses.

“We arrested three people and sealed at least 15 warehouses,” he added.

Muhammad Asim directed district governments and food departments to join hands to investigate the matter.

He also assured a complaint cell will be established at the district nazim’s office to ensure all public complaints are addressed and resolved.

The district nazim said administrators who had helped carry out the raid will be awarded. “The recovered food items will be distributed among IDPs after investigation is complete,” he added.
