Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Raja Parvaiz Akhtar sentenced a convict to 13 years rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs250,000 for posting hateful sectarian material on Facebook. 


Saqlain Haidar, a resident of Khalowal in Chiniot, was accused of uploading hate material to the social media website. The prosecution said he had hurt the sentiments of members of various sects and had caused concerns among residents of the area he lived in.

On the complaint of one of the residents, Assistant Sub Inspector Zulfiqar Ahmad of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police, Chiniot, had registered a case against Haider on October 27 and arrested him.

The case was registered under Section 9-A (using threatening, abusive or insulting words) and 11-W (printing, publishing, or disseminating material to incite hatred) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

He will undergo an additional five months’ imprisonment if he does not pay the fine.
