War against terror will be taken to logical end: Army chief

Gen Raheel says armed forces are committed to ensuring peace in the country as well as countering external threats

Army chief General Raheel Sharif assured on Saturday that the armed forces would take the war against terrorism to its logical end, Radio Pakistan reported.

“Armed forces are committed to ensure peace and security in the country as well as countering external threats to its solidarity,” General Raheel said, while addressing the Pakistani community at Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC.

"Pakistan and United States have common views on countering the existing and emerging threats to their interests in the region," he added.



Further, Gen Raheel said he wants friendly relations with all neighbouring countries while maintaining honour and dignity.

Expressing complete satisfaction at the upward trajectory and growth in Pak-US defence and counter-terrorism cooperation, he also underlined the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for Pakistan as he stated that it would bring greater economic prosperity of the entire region.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan's Ambassador to the US Jalil Abbas Jilani reiterated that "Pakistan's armed forces are playing a vital role in safeguarding the country from internal and external threats."

The ambassador appreciate the sacrifices rendered by Pakistan's armed forces in order to maintain peace in the country.

Further, Gen Raheel, following the dinner hosted by the Pakistan Embassy, had a detailed meeting with the Acting National Security Adviser of the United States regarding issues related to regional security and others.

"The chief of army staff met the acting NSA to discuss in detail, issues pertaining to counter terrorism. The two authorities also discussed measures to choke terrorist financing," DG ISPR Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa said.
