
Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Raja Pervaiz Akhtar on Friday awarded 15 years imprisonment and imposed a Rs300,000 fine to a man he found guilty of distributing banned literature and propagating extremism through Facebook, a social networking site. He would have to undergo additional two-year prison term if he fails to pay the fine. Prosecution said Rajhana police of Toba Tek Singh had registered an FIR against Zeehshan Shaukhat on the complainant of Matiullah on October 23 and had arrested him on October 25. Prosecution said the complainant had told police that Shaukhat had uploaded hate material online which contained abusive language and promoted sectarianism. After hearing witnesses and examining evidence, Judge Akhtar convicted Shaukat and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
