The National Assembly observed on Friday a minute of silence over the recent deadly terrorist attacks in Paris and Lebanon.

A series of coordinated attacks by gunmen and suicide bombers in Paris killed at least 128 people in scenes of carnage at a concert hall, restaurants and the national stadium on November 13. The deadly attacks were carried out just a day after two suicide bombers killed at least 43 people and wounded more than 200 in the Southern Beirut suburb of Bourj el-Barajneh.

The 26th session of the National Assembly began in Islamabad with Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair, according to Radio Pakistan.

Sadiq was re-elected on November 9 to the coveted office he had to relinquish after an election tribunal had nullified his election from NA-122 (Lahore V) on August 22.

The House was informed that the government is planning to launch vocational programme to train one hundred and twenty thousand youths in the value added sectors including textiles.

“Government has announced several measures in the budget to bolster the textile sector,” Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastagir Khan told lawmakers in the lower house of Parliament.

Further, the minister claimed that Pakistan’s exports to the European Union have increased by 20.5 per cent as a result of steps taken by the incumbent government.

He went on to add that the government plans to organise a textile expo at the start of next year to showcase the country’s textile products.
