KARACHI: Pakistan Test skipper Misbahul Haq hopes his Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) stint will help him retain his fitness and keep him motivated to continue playing cricket.

The 41-year-old on Thursday departed for Bangladesh, where he will be playing for Rangpur Riders over a three-week period in the star-studded T20 tournament.

Responding to speculations regarding his future in Tests, the veteran said a decision will be made in due time.

Younus, Misbah named Advisors on Cricket Affairs

“There is plenty of time for me to decide when to retire,” said Misbah while speaking to media in Lahore. “The league will help me retain my form and keep me going for some time. Whenever you play competitive cricket, your skills improve and you maintain your fitness, and that’s what BPL will give me.”

Star all-rounder Shahid Afridi, Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal, Shahzaib Hasan, Sohail Tanvir, Mohammad Sami, Wahab Riaz, Kamran Akmal, Saeed Ajmal, Shoaib Malik, Yasir Shah, Sohail Khan, Nasir Jamshed, Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Amir will also be seen in action in the six-franchise T20 event.

Meanwhile, Misbah welcomed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan’s decision to appoint him and Younus Khan as Advisors on Cricket Affairs, stating that the current players are in a better position to convey the requirements and problems of players in domestic and international cricket.

Misbah joins BPL to stay match-fit and motivated

Reflecting on Pakistan’s recent losses to England, the former ODI skipper said that the reason of the failure rests more with the team’s own mistakes rather than superior performance on their opponents’ part.
