A shipping consignment of commercial goods bound for Karachi from a Chinese port was seized by Indian authorities on charges of being components of missile and nuclear programme of Pakistan.
The importer, Cosmos Engineering, has filed a claim at the Sindh High Court (SHC) for damages against the shipping company and the freight service company for the seizure of a commercial consignment of a Pakistani company at an Indian port.
The claim, filed through Usman Farooq Advocate, has taken the position that the commercial consignment imported from China was seized by the Indian authorities at the Mumbai port due to the incompetence of the shipping company.
The petitioner said that the Indian authorities seized the consignment, alleging its use in nuclear and missile programmes. The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a clarification, stating that the consignment was purely for commercial use, he said.
However, the shipping company connived with the Indian authorities and got the consignment seized, the petition stated.
The shipping company and the freight company caused damage to the reputation of the plaintiff at the international level. The parties should be ordered to pay more than Rs 209.1 million as damages, Usman Farooq Advocate said.
