Shamaeel’s designs are well-known for their jewel-tone jackets, luxurious overcoats, slim pants, sophisticated cuts and an unusual juxtaposition of colours and prints. Her winter collection did not diverge from this signature style but also offered structured silhouettes and layered separates. She is known for her use of the brick red colour and attention to detail and she did not disappoint in that aspect.
22 independent labels to shine at PLBW 2015
The winds of winter brought with them heavier dupattas and velvet jackets, which seemed perfect for the season’s wardrobe. Multi-layered and exuberant, this was definitely not a collection for the faint hearted or the wallflower bride. The Game of Thrones soundtrack at the launch filled the room with a sense of avidity like it did for her PLBW 2014 showcase, befitting the grandeur of the clothes.
Despite being a part of the industry for over 28 years and maintaining a loyal clientele for her luxe couture pieces, Shamaeel has maintained a relatively low profile. Her one-year-old flagship store stands strong in Karachi and she reveals she plans on opening a store in Lahore next year.
PLBW 2015: Not a seamless walk up to the altar
When Karachi designers step foot in Lahore, they feel the need to experiment with their designs in order to cater to Lahori clients. Designers, such as Misha Lakhani, recently set up a store in the city, featuring a clothing line solely for Lahoris. Referring to this, Shamaeel added “I believe a designer should have their own hallmark. It’s for a designer to influence style. You don’t cater to a market but you need to put your own stamp of individuality and statement of style.”
