For now Hales' 109 from 117 balls, with three sixes, enabled England to put their disappointing display in the opening 50-over match behind them to draw level in this four-game series with a 95-run win.

“It’s also given us a chance as a team to win this series in tough conditions,” the batsman added.

Hales expressed his disappointment in the summer, when he failed to deliver against New Zealand and Australia. But the batsman was determined to turn it around in this series.
