LAHORE:

Lahore High Court (LHC) disqualified on Friday a general councillor who had been elected unopposed from Bhalwal, Sargodha, for possessing two national identity cards. A voter in Union Council 7, Bhalwal, had filed a petition challenging Ahmad Raza’s unopposed election to the union council. His counsel told the court that the local government elections in Bhalwal would be held on November 19. The counsel said Raza had two national identity cards which was unlawful. He said the respondent had been twice enrolled in the voters’ list. He requested the court to disqualify Raza and annul his election. Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan disqualified the respondent. The judge also directed the Election Commission (ECP) to take further appropriate action in this regard.
