Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Social Welfare Dr Mehar Taj Roghani said girls from both seminaries and state-run schools proved they could bring change in society through unity.

Roghani was speaking as chief guest at a naat and qirat competition organised on Friday by Peace Education and Development (PEAD) Foundation in collaboration with UNICEF Pakistan. The event, which was held at Government Girls Higher Secondary School in the city, aimed to promote social unity and change among girls. The competition was organised under the project ‘Strengthening Social Cohesion and Resilience through Educational Initiatives’. Students from seminaries and schools attended in large numbers.

Roghani appreciated efforts to bring students of schools and seminaries together. “Such activities need to be undertaken at a larger scale to promote peace and tolerance; seminary students are no less than those studying at schools,” she said.

“We should show being women, we can play a better role for peace and prosperity in the region.”

PEAD Programme Manager Tariq Hayat said the project is the first ever initiative of UNICEF Pakistan and PEAD Foundation aimed at strengthening bonds between students of seminaries and other schools.
