Lahore to get its own 'Disneyland'

Published: November 13, 2015

An agreement for the construction of a theme park and aquarium with facilities matching that of Disneyland has been signed between the Punjab government and a Chinese company.

The park will be built at a cost of Rs36 billion in one-and-a-half years, according to a handout issued by the Chinese company Golden Bean Group.

Lahore Commissioner Abdullah Sumbal along with Punjab Horticulture Authority director-general Mian Muhammad Shakeel and Chinese company chairman Jin Ming Nan signed the agreement in Lahore on Thursday.

Price hike puts popular US Disneyland annual pass over $1,000

Further, the handout said along with other national and international companies, the Golden Bean Group will also participate in the bidding for the construction of Sundar Workers Welfare Complex Phase-I. Under the project of the Punjab Labour Department worth Rs7.78 billion, 2,900 apartments would be built for industrial workers and labourers.

Labour secretary Ali Sarfraz and Chinese company chairman Jin Ming Nan signed the MoU in this regard.

This is not fair when public schools and hospitals need more attention. This is called misplaced priorities. The province, not only Lahore, need proper sewerage system, clean water, electricity, health and schools in good conditions to serve the poor masses. Disney land theme park will only serve the elite class, what about the poor public ? Recommend

36 billion for what? Some jokers are ruling the Pakistan, why they can’t spend half of it on energy and education. People need food, they can’t later on afford tickets to enjoy the place which will be build using their own money.

And we’ll vote N again in next election, we are the kind which never learn lesson.Recommend

the other 9 cores people living in Punjab (outside Lahore) are also starving for basic necessities,

so there is no need for other provinces to jump in and start creating political instability,

first people of Punjab should wake up and ask for there right’s who always vote for these for these so called Sharif’s**Recommend

Entertainment is good — but the govt shouldn’t be in the business of building theme parks – if there is adequate demand private entrepreneurs can step up. BTW – a real Disney Park is pretty expensive – the Shanghai Disney Resort is going to cost about $5 Billion. Recommend

Yes ! You are excited because you can afford to go to disney land. Time will come when this dis ney land will be besieged by the poor people who have not 1 square meal for his family while your family will be riding roller coaster. People like you are inviting revolution, same way rich people invited french revolution. Revolution comes when there is too much gap between the rich and the poor, today poor people are 60% which are living below poverty line,so with speed your PML N govt is going I am afraid by 2018, surely there will be civil disobedience than revolution, because you asked for it. Nowhere in the news does is it say the PKR36 billion will be Pakistani taxpayer money. Sounds like it’ll be an investment by a foreign investor, under probably favorable terms offered by the Government of Punjab.Recommend

  • Nov 15, 2015 - 3:08AM

It’s hilarious and sad at the same time to see people not even pay attention to the article at all and spew hate on the government. This is NOT a project funded by the government, but a project started by a Chinese company who is investing all the money. They obviously wouldn’t randomly support poverty of a country instead of increasing their profits, and neither can the government force them to do so.

This is complete and utter nonsense to try comparing this with education, hospitals or other issues.Recommend

    @Muhammad Junaid:

you have no financial sense. Rs 36 billion will be, ofcourse, provided by the Chinese in dollar terms but equivalent money in Rupee terms has to be matched which will be provided by the govt & additionally guaranteed by a sovereign guarantee by the Govt of Pakistan through SBP to guarantee their investment. Again, the money spent will be taken away by levying high rates which , you think can the poor people afford ? So, is this project worth spending for a paltry few elite class ? Recommend

China is going to invest all money in this project. we have to build schools hospitals with our own resources. this is good planning to get Foreign Direct investment and after few years it will be transferred to our provincial government like motorway was built by a Korean Company now handed over to GOP.
