BAHAWALPUR: Last month, the Bahawalpur region police arrested 60 “most wanted” suspects during raids in various parts of the area.

During the campaign to arrest top ten most wanted suspects, the Bahawalpur district police nabbed seven murder suspects and five suspected burglars.

Rahim Yar Khan police arrested a murder suspect, a man accused of armed robbery and five suspected burglars. Bahawalnagar police nabbed three suspected murderers.

In a second crackdown last month, Bahawalpur police arrested three murder suspects and three burglary suspects; Bahawalnagar police arrested two murder suspects and Rahim Yar Khan police arrested a suspected burglar.

Regional Police Officer Ehsan Sadiq urged DPOs in the region to shore up their campaigns and improve security for citizens.

According to official statistics, 495 cases were registered at various police stations in Bahawalpur district during October – 74 fewer cases than in October last year.

Of the 1,068 suspects nominated in the cases, police managed to arrest 493 and their challans were presented in court. Police said 14 cases had turned out to be false and were dismissed.

Of the 35 murder suspects in nine cases, police have arrested five.

Police said two cases were dismissed. Police registered four murder attempt FIRs and of 20 suspects nominated in them, arrested six. FIRs were registered for 27 burglary cases.

Out of those, one case was dismissed as false. Of 83 suspects accused of robbery, police arrested 45. Police registered 37 kidnap for ransom cases and dismissed five ‘fake’ cases.

They arrested 20 men allegedly involved in these abductions. Cases were registered in 16 alleged rape attempts. Police said one turned out to be false and was dismissed. Police arrested 12 criminals involved in the cases. Officials said 11 armed robbery and street crime cases were registered during October and 34 suspects were arrested. Police said they had recovered stolen items worth Rs60,000 from them.

During the crackdown against illegal weapons Bahawalpur police registered 39 cases and arrested 39 suspects. They seized four rifles, four shotguns, 27 revolvers/pistols, four carbines and 134 bullets.

During the crackdown against drug dealers 50 cases were registered and 54 suspects were arrested. Police said they had seized four kilos of hashish, 3,124 bottles of liquor, 50 litre moonshine and uncovered eight distilleries.

Police said they had cracked down on several ‘gambling centres’ in the city. They registered 11 cases were registered and arrested 34 suspects.

Two gangs accused of armed robbery were busted and five members of the gangs were arrested. Police said they had traced 11 old cases and recovered Rs58,3200 worth of stolen items from them.

In the implementation of National Action Plan, two cases were registered against suspects who violated the Loudspeaker Act. Two violators were arrested and presented in court.
