The Sindh irrigation department had sent a proposal to the federal ministry of water and power a few weeks ago, asking for the approval of these schemes. The projects require Rs16,233 million and include work on river and canal embankments in the province.
The FFC called a meeting on January 6 in the committee room of the FFC chairman in Islamabad on the directives of the federal minister for water and power, Raja Pervez Ashraf. The meeting would be chaired by FFC chairman Zarar Aslam while the Sindh irrigation secretary, Ministry of Water and Power deputy financial adviser and deputy secretary will also attend.
After the meeting, the scrutinising committee will recommend the selected schemes to Ashraf, officials in the water and power ministry said. The commission will also review the costs, rates and other technical aspects of these schemes and assess their feasibility before sending the proposal forward. The FFC committee will also review projects of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and FATA.
