MINGORA:

Scores of Wapda employees in Mingora protested on Wednesday against the proposed privatisation of the organisation by the government.

The protesters marched from Wapda offices in Rahimabad, Mingora, Kabal, and Matta towards Swat Press Club. They held placards with slogans against the provincial and federal governments which plan to privatise the organisation.

Wapda Zonal Union chairperson Umar Ali said the process will amount to economic devastation of the employees. He warned they would not accept any policies which could lead to their suffering.

General Secretary Rafiullah Khan said the policies were anti-worker and employees would not allow them to be implemented. He added countrywide protests would be held if the government continued with its privatisation plans.

The demonstrators warned they would go to any lengths to stop the process.
