Targeted again: Two policemen shot dead in Shikarpur

The incident took place when the cops were deployed at a check post

SUKKUR: Two policemen of Mehmoodabad police station in Shikarpur were gunned down on Tuesday, while the assailants managed to flee with the cops' weapons.

The incident took place when ASI Haji Muhammad and police constable Ghulam Rasool Sahito were deployed at Guddu check post in the katcha area. A group of men opened fire on the two officers from behind the check post while they were on duty. As a result, both the policemen were killed on the spot.

Police arrived at the crime scene after the driver of a passenger wagon saw the bodies and alerted them. The bodies were shifted to the Civil hospital in Shikarpur for medico-legal formalities.



The ASI was a resident of Mian Chanu in Punjab, while Sahito was from Tharo Shah in Naushahro Feroze. Police have started investigating the two murders but no arrests were made till the filing of this report.

The Namaz-e-Janaza of the policemen was offered in Shikarpur, which was also attended by the Shikarpur deputy commissioner, Larkana DIG and other officials. Speaking to the media, the DIG termed the murder of the police officials targeted killings and said that the attackers gunned down the two policemen to avenge the killings of dacoits. He added that such attacks will not deter their commitment to eliminate the criminals once and for all.
