PESHAWAR:
An under-construction bridge on Pajaggi Road developed cracks after an overloaded trailer passed under it and got stuck on Monday. The trailer was finally removed after half an hour of efforts. “However, visible cracks appeared on the underside,” said a Peshawar Development Authority official.
He said a Communication and Works team visited the bridge and the contractor assured he would reconstruct it.
Later, a handout said Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Adviser to the CM on C&W Akbar Ayub Khan took notice of media reports about the damage to the bridge near Bacha Khan Markaz.
Communication and Works (C&W Secretary Muhammad Asif Khan also rushed to the site and examined the bridge.
He found media reports were correct as a fissure had emerged on the deck slab of the bridge. He immediately ordered an enquiry against the responsible officers and issued instructions for the reconstruction of the bridge.
Akbar Ayub Khan assured that not only would the bridge be reconstructed, but the officers responsible for use of substandard material would be taken to task.
