PESHAWAR: The doctors who fulfil the Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons degree in Pakistan will soon be inducted as medical consultants through walk-in interviews at the places of their choice.

This was said by Minister for Health Shahram Tarakai in a statement issued from the health department on Sunday.

“The doctors will be deputed to health service delivery outlets in the peripheries,” read the statement, adding the consultants will be offered attractive packages and incentives for the jobs. The statement added salaries and incentives of public sector doctors were being increased and a summary for the same has been prepared and sent to the chief minister for final approval.

While talking to a delegation of young doctors at his office, the health minister said all vacant posts of doctors, paramedics and nurses in the public sector were being filled on an emergency basis.

Improving the system

“In addition to district specialists, as many as 900 nurses and 500 paramedics are being recruited for district headquarters hospitals and other health service outlets,” the minister was quoted as saying. “The no objection certificate has been obtained from the Provincial Public Service Commission and these vacancies will be advertised in the press within a couple of days.”

Tarakai made it clear the provincial government was not biased towards any doctor or individual, but was against the mind-set that favours the status quo and creates hindrances in the way of change. He discussed matters pertaining to effective implementation of the reform initiatives of K-P government in the health sector and the role of doctors there.
