Pakistani stars bring the crowd to its feet as South Asian artist community gathers for Masala Awards

An evening celebrated with much glitz and glamour marked one of the most awaited award ceremonies of the year — The Masala Awards 2015 held on November 5, in Dubai. Several Pakistani artists took centre stage as the night unfolded, with actor Mahira Khan and renowned singer Farhan Saeed adding yet another accolade to their shelves, according to a press release. Honouring the incredible triumphs of the Asian community in the UAE, the Masala Awards represented the best the region has to offer.


Having bagged an award in the ‘Best Actress’ category for Bin Roye, Mahira looked back in time in her acceptance speech.  “In my own small way, I am representing Pakistani cinema today on an international platform. It feels amazing. From the time that we started till now, we’ve gone miles ahead,” she shared proudly.

As Farhan Saeed earned  the ‘Most Promising Singer’ prize of the year, he rocked the stage with a few of his outstanding performances. He outdid himself with three consecutive performances, Halka Halka Suroor, Mai Tainu Samjhawan Ki and Wo Lamhay, respectively.  Farhan’s better-half, actor Urwa Hocane, and Sanam Saeed of Talkhiyaan fame were also among the stars, who graced the occasion along with designer Faraz Manan.

From across the border, actor Jacqueline Fernandez won the Masala award for  ‘Style Icon’, and looked ethereal in a H&M gown. Bollywood superstar Varun Dhawan won ‘Best Actor’ for his recent blockbuster film Badlapur.

Over the years, the awards have become a touchstone of success with the trophy symbolsing the community’s immense contribution in various fields. Last Year, Fawad Khan was awarded as the ‘Best Debutant of Bollywood’ for his role in Khoobsoorat and Humaima Malick took over the title for ‘Best Breakthrough Performer of the Year’ and also entertained the viewers with her startling performance at the star-studded event.

Masala Awards 2015 were attended by over 1,000 people representing different industries who have contributed significantly in their own field.

With its seventh year, the show sought to applaud achievements of the Asian community and its contribution towards making the UAE a haven of luxury and glamour. It brings together eminent entrepreneurs, lifestyle experts and Bollywood celebrities.
