KARACHI: A woman was killed and at least five others were injured when a speeding Dow University of Health Sciences bus collided with several vehicles in Nazimabad on Monday.

According to the police, the victim was identified as 45-year-old Najma, who was sitting behind her husband, Kashif, on their motorcycle when the bus rammed into them near Golimar Chowrangi. Kashif also sustained injuries while the bus driver managed to escape.

The witnesses recalled that the bus driver lost control. He first hit a hi-roof van, then a rickshaw and later it collided with two motorcycles. All vehicles were damaged. The other injured people are Usman, Kamal, Saeed and Danish.

SHO Sohail said that the bus driver was unable to control the bus as his brakes had failed. “We have contacted the university officials and asked them to produce the driver to the police,” he said. The police have, however, impounded the vehicle and will register a case against the driver on behalf of the state.

The deceased and the injured men were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities and medical treatment.
