A police official told The Express Tribune Akram Gandapur was on his way home from the mosque after morning prayers when three assailants gunned him down. They managed to escape from the scene after committing murder. The deceased’s brother registered an FIR with Daraban police station.
“The motive behind the murder remains unknown,” he added.
Access to justice
A 16-year-old boy, who had accused Kari Khaisur SHO of sexually abusing him, has appealed to the Peshawar High Court (PHC) DI Khan bench.
Salim accused three police personnel, including SHO Sabir Hussain Baloch, of raping him at the police station. Earlier, the allegations against the police officials had been declared baseless by a local court and they were acquitted. Salim has decided to appeal to the high court to take the culprits to task.
Salim’s case will be presented by his lawyer Jahan Zeb Chughtai. Speaking to the media, Salim said, “I expect justice from the high court and will pursue the case till the culprits are punished.”
In the past
On October 7, Salim had submitted a written complaint to DI Khan DPO saying SHO Sabir Hussain Baloch and other police officials came to his house at night, took him to the police station and sexually abused him. “The SHO is putting pressure on me and threatening to kill me. My life is in danger and I need protection,” stated a copy of the complaint.
Insiders familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune Salim was initially taken to District Headquarters and Teaching Hospital DI Khan for a medical examination. However, he was later shifted to the DPO’s office amid tight security for the check-up. Salim was accompanied by a medical officer.
However, police did not divulge any details about the medical report and also refused to comment on why the medical examination was carried out at the DPO’s office rather than a hospital. No legal action was taken against the culprits till the filing of this report.
According to locals, similar complaints had surfaced against the SHO previously.
